Confession: I have no idea what this blog is about!
Most bloggers out there would most certainly cringe at the title of this post. The admittance of not having a clue as to what your own blog is about is a sure way of telling people, “there’s no reason to visit my website!” But, heck, at least I’m honest!
The truth is, I can get away with writing such a post because I don’t have any visitors! Besides the few friends I have who frequent the blog (I thank you all for that, by the way!) the “unknown traffic” has basically crashed and burned (yesterday I had a whopping 25 visitors to my blog! That’s really low!). The only time I’ve had a large number of visitors (I think my best day was 375 visitors) was when I wrote about Guidos and/or “Jersey Shore” and I must say, I didn’t start blogging to write about Guidos! The amount of visitors wouldn’t bother me so much if I were actually writing with a purpose. If I enjoyed what I was writing about, and I was providing my readers with any sort of service (entertainment or actual information) then I honestly wouldn’t care about the traffic as much because that would eventually take care of itself. The lack of traffic on this website is just a sign of the lack of purpose, and I’m tired of that.
So that brings me to why I started blogging in the 1st place. Last May I caught a writing bug. I wanted to write, but the problem was, and still is, that I was never sure what to write about! Do I solely write a hockey blog, and even more specifically, a New York Islanders blog? Do I solely write a blog in response to the News, where I comment on Television Media as well as internet articles? I didn’t have an answer, and I’m still searching for one. My quick fix was to name the website something vague like “TomUnfiltered” (and there is my 1st problem. I regret choosing that name, but once again, even I didn’t know what the blog was about, so how could I properly name it?) and the idea was to rant and rave about whatever inspired me. The problem as of late is nothing inspires me, so I don’t write, and people don’t come to my site. It’s as simple as that.
Bottom Line: I realize if I don’t keep my blog updated then people won’t come. But it’s not enough to post something for the sake of simply staying updated. Nothing inspires me because I don’t know what this blog is about. If it were simply about the Islanders then I’d be able to focus in on topics and subjects that make sense and give me structure. There currently is no structure to this site. I’m thinking about all this now because of my low traffic numbers, but also because my domain subscription is up on May 1st and I’m not planning on renewing it.
I repeat . . . www.tomunfiltered.com will most likely be no more as of May 1st 2010!
It was fun to start a blog last May. It got me used to a lot of technical stuff I was never exposed to, and I got to scratch my writing itch. What I’d like to do now, however, is actually think about what it is that does inspire me. What’s important to me? What would make me feel good to write about? I don’t want to write for writing’s sake anymore. I need a purpose. So with that said, I think I’m going to start a free blog on one of the already set-up blogging websites. Sort of a fresh start. I’ll take the experience I gained from starting/running this little tomunfiltered venture and use it to make my next one even better. Most certainly the new blog will have a purpose!

Say it ain’t so, Tom… Say it ain’t sooooo…
i dont know what to say, and that says alot!
Well guys . . . honestly . . . if I could find a more directed purpose for this blog – perhaps a singular thing to talk about (news, hockey – whatever) then maybe I’ll keep it, but I think I made a few mistakes, mainly not starting off on a free blog website (like Blogger.com or wordpress.com) . . . .
Anyway – I might allow my subscription to expire and then eventually start a new site (with a specific purpose) on one of those “pre-made” sites and take it from there, I’d just have to think of a topic and a new name – so if you have any ideas for genre and/or a name then you should let me know! Maybe I’ll designate a post solely to new ideas!
Finally, I would like to allow this blog to expire and then WAIT to start another one because I’d like to focus more time on screenplay writing – both reading up and studying on the how-to’s and in’s and out’s of screenplay writing, as well as the actual writing! I feel like instead of half-assing it on a blog I could focus more of my attention on some creative script writing. We shall see what comes of all this!
